MEE - New organisation replacing SPD in 2005

MEE has recently been set up to replace SPD (Sociaal Pedagogische Dienst). More info to come in next few months. Some small info to be going on with.

Their website is at www.meenederland.nl and at www.mee.nl though they appear to be exclusively in Dutch

AAOF have written some notes on MEE in English. Linked here notes in English by the AAOF.

Previous info we had about SPD:-

Sociaal Pedagogische Dienst (SPD):- An organisation specialising in services and support to people with difficulties or special needs, their parents and carers. Some of the information on their website was in English (but their old site at www.spd.nl now redirects you to MEE). Notes on this link by AAOF gave a summary of SPD organisation, service and support (notes from meeting 11 June 2003. These are informal notes for guidance prepared by the AAOF, and information should be checked with the SPD when required.

AAOF have written some notes on SPD in English, which include some info about the migration to the MEE approach. Linked here

Other online information on autism

Wendy Lawson
www.mugsy.org/wendy/

Wendy Lawson has an Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, Wendy has graduated, over time, from being a child considered to be intellectually disabled and 'almost incapable of doing as she is told' (as one school report stated) to a mum of four children with five university degrees. Wendy is a qualified Social Worker and Adult Educator who now operates her own business. She currently works as a trainee psychologist.

Wendy wrote several books, the two most famous being: 'Life Behind Glass' and ''Understanding and Working with the Spectrum of Autism An Insider's View' . The first book explores her experience of life as a person with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, however, it also aims to help others deduce strategies for living with autism in various ways, such as an autistic person, a parent or worker who lives or works with autistic people. Her second book explains more of the way people with ASD think and react to the world using comparisons from the non-ASD world to help professionals, families and carers to relate to and communicate with people with ASD better.
